Jodie Marsh has hit out residents in an Essex estate, after she was pelted with eggs and coins as she tried to film a TV documentary about benefits.

The bodybuilder and glamour model was forced to retreat with her crew from the notorious Brooklands estate, in Jaywick, Essex.

Locals resented coverage of their neighbourhood – officially the most deprived in the UK – in two Channel 5 documentaries, Benefits Britain and Benefits by the Sea, earlier this year.

Jodie later tweeted: “People of Jaywick: do not tar me or my film crew with the same brush as others. I pride myself on making honest, fair, decent documentaries.The production crew – including Jodie – were targeted in the Tamarisk Way car park as they filmed a documentary for the Discovery Channel.

It is understood a group of about six people threw eggs at the crew while other residents hurled verbal abuse.Fed-up residents in Brooklands, which is officially listed as the most deprived in the country, have been calling for TV crews to leave the area alone.

Jodie, 36, tweeted: “I know you have been screwed over by other film crews, but I do not screw people over. I have been screwed over myself, so I'm with you.“I came to Jaywick to give you a voice and you chased us out of town. I didn't disrespect you, so don't disrespect me! I didn't judge you, so don't judge me.

“If you watched any of my shows you would categorically know that I don't stitch people up.

“You will only make yourself look bad if you are vile to me without giving me a chance to talk to you.”Jaywick video blogger Danny Sloggett, who was featured in the Benefits by the Sea programme hit out at those who targeted the TV crew.

“These people are just small-minded,” he said.

“It’s very disappointing as they didn’t give the TV crew the chance to explain.

“People in Jaywick won’t get heard if we throw eggs at them.

“They even got the wrong crew – these people were nothing to do with the other programmes.

“I was going to film something positive with them, but since this happened I haven’t heard anything back – I’m very upset about it.”

Tuesday’s incident came after banners were put up near the Beach Road post office saying “Proud Jaywick fights back” and “No more biased TV”.Resident were left angry after Benefits By The Sea, which focused on residents struggling to make ends meet while living on the breadline, branded the Brooklands estate as the “closest thing this country has to a shanty town”.

It was criticised for featuring residents battling alcohol, drugs and eviction.

One resident, who is taking part in the documentary but did not want to be named, said producers have promised to portray Jaywick fairly as part of a wider programme about people living on benefits across Essex.

It is understood that the documentary is being made about Jodie Marsh’s home county of Essex and focuses on benefits.

The production company moved away from the site where they were filming after their presence upset a number of people.But the production team completed their filming which took place both in Jaywick and on Tudor Estate.

JAYWICK councillors Roy Raby and Kevin Watson said residents had been left upset following the previous “hatchet jobs” on the deprived area.

They said they backed residents, but called on people not to target television crews.

“I can understand tempers are running high, but people shouldn’t stoop to that sort of thing,” said Mr Raby.

“People are against any TV company going down there now.

“Tempers are running high over the previous negative programmes.“We took the people from Spun Gold TV, who made the previous Benefits by the Sea programme, down there without any cameras to the sites that are due to be regenerated.

“But afterwards we said we didn’t want to be part of it whatsoever.”

Mr Watson added: “People have had enough. If the production companies had been fair in the first place then this wouldn’t have happened.

“We spoke to the last production company in good faith about regeneration and the positive things, not about drugs and alcoholics

“We are not getting involved in this one.”
