Danny Ings ruled out for entire season as Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is...

Jurgen Klopp has been dealt another hammer blow with the devastating news that in form striker Danny Ings is out for the season.

The Liverpool summer signing celebrated his first England cap this week and looked to have a massive future under the new German manager, his season is over after suffering a crippling anterior cruciate ligament injury in training yesterday.

It is the same injury that Reds youngster Joe Gomez endured on England U21 duty this week, and the new boss will feel cursed as he tries to put together a winning side for his debut game in charge, as the Reds visit Spurs on Saturday.

Ings was taking part in his first session after being away on international duty and suffered the crippling injury as he simply turned away from the ball, under no challenge.

Scans confirmed the striker – whose pressing mentality is perfect for Klopp – had suffered ligament damage.

Both players face surgery and although Ings' injury is less serious, he is still expected to spend six months on the sidelines. Gomez is likely to be out for nine months to a year.It is a shocking blow for the young forward, because he had high hopes not only of securing a strong future under the new manager, but also a place in the England squad for next summer's European Championship.

Both players will have their operations next week when their injuries settle down.

It is an added nightmare for Klopp, who is already missing skipper Jordan Henderson and star summer signing Christian Benteke ahead of Saturday's visit to Tottenham.Ings had originally gone away on England duty with a slight ankle injury, which ruled him out of making his debut against Estonia last Friday.

He recovered in time to make his senior debut off the bench in the closing minutes against Lithuania – only for his season to come to a brutal halt just 24 hours later.

Ings was told only on Tuesday by Klopp that he was to be key figure for the new Reds boss.

Klopp wants to base his Anfield revolution on young players and is desperate to have an English influence in his side.
