Newcastle are rock bottom and captain Fabricio Coloccini won't even LOOK...

Fabricio Coloccini is refusing to look at the Premier League table until December as his Newcastle side battle to avoid a relegation fight.

The Toon skipper has begged fans to “trust” Steve McClaren’s side to turn around their form and “finish strongly”.

Rock-bottom Newcastle are still looking for their first league win of the season with eight games gone as they prepare to host Norwich on Sunday — ahead of the North-East derby against fellow strugglers Sunderland the following weekend.

But Coloccini is convinced the Magpies will climb off the bottom and to safety.

He said: “I never look at the table at the moment.

“Maybe in December, I will look and study it. For now, only getting points is important.“If you watch the league, you maybe find it hard to believe that Newcastle are in such difficulties.

“I know that is difficult to say at the moment because of results and we are not doing well, that is 100 per cent sure. But I am lucky to be inside this group. I see things that the results don’t reflect.“It seems we cannot take points. That is a massive thing. But there are little things we can trust - we have a great staff as well, a positive staff trying to guide us, and we will finish strong.“The results are not here and it is difficult to understand that.

"People on the inside can know we are looking forward and trying to go up the league, all together.”
