Jurgen Klopp has laid down the law at Anfield with a tough set of new rules.

The Liverpool manager has banned players’ wives and girlfriends from the training ground, and warned them: “Melwood is the headquarters of football.”

The German coach issued those exact words in a team meeting with his new squad, explaining he sees the training ground as a place where his new players are totally, 100 per cent committed to their work.

Klopp has spelled out exactly what he expects from everyone at the club, and he wants total commitment to the Liverpool cause, expecting everyone to get themselves in shape to run and fight more than the opposition team.He has also warned the players there will be a dramatic cut back on the amount of time off they were allowed to take under the previous regime.

Instead, he wants them in working on the training ground, and even scheduled THREE sessions on the first day all players were available after the international break.

Speaking about his approach, he explained that he wants to change the mentality - but only because that’s the easiest thing to change in the short term.

“I have to give the boys things that they are able to do. Of course, I want to see a change in mentality; [to go] from the first second until the last second.“Not because it was bad before but because that is the most easy thing to change. We have to go to London, go out of the stadium, go out of the dressing room [and show] what we can do.

“That’s what we are waiting for the whole week. That’s what we dream of. All the tactical things, that’s very important because we do not have to work so much on the physical side.

“My ideas are not better than Brendan’s. They are different, of course, and so we need time. That’s a big challenge: to find a way [to make] the first step and that you can see that it is better. They have to get better in the games.”
