Jurgen Klopp is set to be without Christian Benteke for his first game as Liverpool manager against Tottenham on Saturday, report the Liverpool Echo .


The Belgian has been sidelined by a hamstring injury for the Reds' last four matches and has yet to resume training.

The £32.5million summer signing has been undergoing at Melwood treatment since he was forced off against Norwich on September 20.

The former Aston Villa frontman, who missed Belgium’s final two Euro 2016 qualifiers against Andorra and Israel, is running out of time to prove his fitness for the trip to White Hart Lane.

However, Roberto Firmino is making progress following the back injury he suffered after falling awkwardly during the Reds’ Capital One Cup tie against Carlisle United three weeks ago.The £29million summer signing has been working away from the main group at Melwood and is close to being given the green light to resume full training. No decision has been taken yet on whether he will feature against Spurs.

Captain Jordan Henderson and Jon Flanagan remain out but Klopp will be bolstered by the return of a number of players from international duty when his squad reconvene at Melwood on Wednesday afternoon.Simon Mignolet, Joe Allen, Divock Origi, Jordon Ibe, Martin Skrtel and Joe Gomez will all report back.

Gomez limped out of England Under-21s’ victory over Kazakhstan at Coventry on Tuesday night but his knee injury isn’t as serious as first feared. The young defender is believed to have a tweaked a ligament in his right knee and will have further assessments at Melwood.Wednesday will be the first time Klopp has been able to get his full squad together since his appointment as Brendan Rodgers’ successor last week.

Kolo Toure, Dejan Lovren, James Milner, Philippe Coutinho, Daniel Sturridge, Mamadou Sakho, Alberto Moreno, Lucas Leiva and Joao Carlos Teixeira were all present for his first session on Monday, with England trio Nathaniel Clyne, Danny Ings and Adam Lallana, along with Emre Can and Adam Bogdan, returning 24 hours later.
